Classes (OrbusVR)

From Travellers Hall Wiki
(Redirected from Class)

There are eight different classes in OrbusVR, with each class fulfilling one of the roles of Tank, Support or Damage.

Being built for VR from the ground up, all classes require the player to master physical skills - be it hitting small weakspots at a large distance as a Ranger, nailing curveshots as a Scoundrel, drawing complicated spell-runes as a Runemage or managing shield durability as a Warrior, most of the progression comes from mastering the individual class mechanics instead of using a complicated skill tree.

A player is never locked into playing a single class - the game allows players to change their classes on the fly, anywhere.

Tank

The sturdy tank classes keep the enemy's attention away from their much more fragile allies.

Warrior

Scott as a Warrior

→ Main Page: Warrior

The Warrior uses a large shield to block powerful attacks and protect their allies from danger. With their sword, they perform quick slash combos on their enemies to deal some damage and apply effects like powerful slows.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • High threat generation
  • Great for single enemies
  • Can completely block any melee damage
  • Groups of enemies
  • Can't block AoE or most projectiles
  • Harder to learn than Paladin
  • Can be physically exhausting

Paladin

Pherosis as a Paladin

→ Main Page: Paladin

The Paladin's tanking playstyle is focused on reactive play. Their hammer converts damage received into energy to retaliate with mighty lightning-charged blows.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Great for groups of enemies
  • Partial damage mitigation from all attacks
  • Easier tank class to learn
  • Stun-lock enemies and even bosses
  • Less threat generation on single enemies than Warrior

Support

What these classes lack in terms of raw power, they make up by their ability to heal and strengthen their allies.

Musketeer

Pherosis as a Musketeer

→ Main Page: Musketeer

Armed with an array of runic orbs, the Musketeer can fire at range to damage enemies and heal allies, affecting many targets at once.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Quick and powerful burst heals
  • Can act as a tank on weaker monster groups
  • Can resurrect dead players while in combat
  • Fewer non-healing support options

Bard

Datalus as a Bard.

→ Main Page: Bard

The Bard is a support class focused around conducting your own personal mini-orchestra of musical orbs. By keeping them in-sync and choosing the right instrument at the right time, you can support your party members, heal your allies, weaken your enemies, and even deal a little damage of your own.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Constant passive healing and buffs
  • Can heal while out of combat
  • Can greatly increase a party's damage output
  • Slow burst heals
  • Cannot resurrect players

Damage

These classes focus on dishing out as much damage as possible, but don't like to get attacked themselves.

Ranger

→ Main Page: Ranger

The Ranger has taken the basics of hunting and honed them into a deadly art. Armed with a bow and a variety of specialty arrows, the most powerful Rangers can hit targets from great distances, fire multiple arrows at once, and possess deadly accuracy.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Deals more damage at long range
  • Potential to hit very high numbers with single arrows
  • Two very different playstyles
  • Weak at close range

Runemage

jordaNN and Smile as Runemages.

→ Main Page: Runemage

A quick study, the Runemage has an entire litany of spells memorized, ready to use at a moment’s notice. Using their wand, the Runemage draws runes to harness a powerful energy and cast spells in aid of allies or in attack of enemies.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • High damage potential
  • High skill ceiling
  • Lateral movement is difficult
  • Wrist pain is very common among Runemages
  • Requires a lot of practice

Scoundrel

Pherosis as a Scoundrel.

→ Main Page: Scoundrel

The Scoundrel is a high-skill, high-damage class built around pressing your luck. Equipped with a six shooter and a trusty deck of magical cards, the Scoundrel can sling their gun to fire curved bullets and increase their attack.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Burst damage
  • High amount of critical hits
  • Easy to learn
  • Popular PvP class
  • The most popular build is very fragile

Shaman

Pherosis as a Shaman.

→ Main Page: Shaman

The Shaman is an offensive class with the ability to affect the entire battlefield. Throwing down totems, the Shaman can spread effects to slow down enemies, or throw down a spell-slinging totem and grab some arcane energy to hurl for massive damage.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • AoE damage melts groups of monsters
  • Easy to learn
  • Low mobility

Changing Classes

Your class is tied to your currently equipped weapon. You can change classes by selecting the weapon of the class you want to play from your inventory and putting it into a weapon slot on your character sheet.

Weapons of a different class can be acquired from the Beginner Weapons NPC at the graveyard in front of the City of Highsteppe.

  • You have to have a weapon equipped at all times - you can't un-equip a weapon during class switches, but instead have to switch the new weapon with your current weapon.
  • While in combat, you can't change your equipment, and, by extension, your class.

Loadout

You can save an image of the equipment you are currently wearing on your weapon. Equipping that weapon will equip the rest of the saved equipment automatically.

  • This only works if the weapon (with loadout applied) is selected first, and is then switched with your current weapon. If the currently equipped weapon is selected first and switched with the weapon in the inventory, the loadout will be ignored.
  • Switching the weapon to your other hand will also equip gear according to the saved loadout.
