Runemage/Tilesets/Fire Mage

The Fire Mage is a runemage build that, at first glance, seems deceptively simple - just cast a bunch of Fireballs. But you're fighting a battle against time to hit those ᚾ tiles (or even more), and need to build up a lot of stamina to keep that speed going. Good luck! You'll be casting Greater Fireball as many times a second as you can humanly manage, for as long as you can humanly manage.

The barrier to entry for this technique is 2.3 Greater Fireballs per second. Otherwise, you will not be triggering these tiles. If you are casting less than that, try the heal-reliant version of Fire Mage, or the Frost-Fire Mage or Rotation Mage playstyle.

Relevant Runes

  • ᚢ: Fireball
  • ᛗ: 2 hits per second
  • ᚾ: 3 hits per second
  • ᛈ: 4 hits per second
  • ᛢ: 5+ hits per second
  • Ƶ: Delay of 1-2 seconds between hits
  • ᚦ: Delay of 6+ seconds between hits (start of combat)
  • ᛏ: triggered by anything that heals you

Solo Fire

Pure Fire

This tileset requires you to cast between 2.2 and 2.5 Greater Fireballs per second. If you cast between 17 and 20 fireballs before triplicity runs out, this tileset is for you. The closer you get to 2.5 spells per second, the more often this set will trigger.

At this speed, you will be able to trigger both ᛗ and ᚾ tiles, with ᚾ occurring less often than ᛗ. If you find yourself hitting ᚾ more often than ᛗ, these tiles will get less efficient, and it is time for an upgrade.

Tiles Needed

ᛗ: 5 ᚢ: 5 ᚾ: 3 Ƶ: 1 ᚦ: 1

Tilesets

  • ᚾᚢᛗ
  • ᚾᛗᚢ
  • ᛗᚢᚾ
  • ᚦᚢᛗ: Start of Combat (optional)
  • Ƶᚢᛗ: Triggers when you pop (optional)

Notes

  • The ᚾᚢᛗ, ᚾᛗᚢ and ᛗᚢᚾ tilesets are the core tilesets.
  • The tilesets ᚦᚢᛗ and Ƶᚢᛗ are for consistency and can be switched out for other sets. Options include, but are not limited to:
    • ᚨᚢᛗ and ᚨᛗᚢ for a Frost-Fire hybrid, that is also able to play sub-optimal Rotation. Also useful if you are running the Iceheart weapon affix.
Note that you still have to hit ᚾ or you won't have all three tileset boosts up.
    • ᛟᚨᚢ and ᛟᚨᛗ for a Rotation hybrid. Depending on your affliction casting speed, Ƶᛟᚨᚢ and Ƶᛟᚨᛗ may work even better.
Note that you still have to hit ᚾ or you won't have all three tileset boosts up.

Blazing Inferno

This tileset requires you to cast at least 2.6 Greater Fireballs per second. If you cast between 21 and 22 fireballs before triplicity runs out, this tileset is for you.

At this speed, you will be able to trigger both ᛗ and ᚾ tiles, with ᛗ occurring less often than ᚾ. Upgrade once you hit ᛈ more often than ᛗ.

Tiles Needed

ᛗ: 3 ᚢ: 3 ᚾ: 3 ᛈ: 2 ᛢ: 1

Tilesets

  • ᛗᚢᚾ
  • ᛗᚾᚢ
  • ᚾᚢᛗ
  • ᛈᚢᚾ (optional)
  • ᛢᚢᛈ (optional)

Notes

  • Like for the Pure Fire set, the last two optional tilesets can be switched out for other tilesets you might prefer. Options include:
    • ᛈᚢᚾ and ᛈᚾᚢ if you can hit ᛈ. If you start hitting those consistenly, you may want to upgrade to the God of Fire set.
    • Consistency tilesets with delay tiles like Ƶᚢᛗ
    • Start-of-Combat tilesets like ᚦᚢᛗ

God of Fire

This tileset requires you to cast approximately 3.4 Greater Fireballs per second. If you cast between 22 and 27 or more fireballs before triplicity runs out, this tileset is for you.

This set requires you to cast at a speed that triggers both ᛈ and ᚾ runes. It also includes two tilesets that will result in 100% uptime at a cast speed of exactly 2.5 spells per second, if you get tired.

  • Approximately 3.4 Greater Fireballs a second
  • 17 to 27+ fireballs in triplicity, this tileset is for you.

Tiles Needed

ᛗ: 2 ᚢ: 5 ᚾ: 5 ᛈ: 3

Tilesets

  • ᚾᚢᛈ
  • ᛈᚾᚢ
  • ᛈᚢᚾ
  • ᛗᚢᚾ
  • ᚾᚢᛗ

Heal-reliant Fire

Healing Scorch

This tileset requires you to cast 1.5 to 4.1 Greater Fireballs per second. If you cast between 12 and 34 or more fireballs before triplicity runs out, this tileset is for you. In addition, it requires you to also receive constant healing from a Musketeer. Do not use this set with only a Bard, use the Bartarded Flame set instead.

This tileset has very high efficiency and the highest possible damage ceiling, as long as you are able to at least hit ᛗ runes and are in healing range with a Renew on you and/or or a Lifewell under you at all times.

Tiles Needed

ᛗ: 1 ᚢ: 5 ᚾ: 1 ᛏ: 5 ᛈ: 1 ᚦ: 2

Tilesets

  • ᚦᚢᛏ: Start of combat
  • ᚦᛏᚢ: Start of combat
  • ᛗᚢᛏ: Casting 1.5-2.9 spells per second
  • ᚾᚢᛏ: Casting 2.2-3.9 spells per second
  • ᛈᚢᛏ: Casting 3.2+ spells per second

Notes

  • The regeneration from the Health Bracer will not trigger ᛏ and thus will not work as a healing source for this tileset.
  • You can also drink Legendary Healing Potions every 13 seconds instead of having a Musketeer. Actually, no, don't do that.
  • Other tileset options include:
    • ᛢᚢᛏ for triplicity or true Gods of Fire.
    • Ƶᚢᛏ as a consistency option that triggers when you pop.

Bartarded Flame

This tileset requires you to cast 1.5 to 2.3 Greater Fireballs per second. If you cast between 12 and 18 fireballs before triplicity runs out, this tileset is for you. In addition, it requires you to also receive constant healing from a Bard. Do not use this tileset with a Musketeer, use the Healing Scorch set instead.

This tileset is generally less efficient and more sensitive to casting speed than the Healing Scorch set. As the Bard's Instrument of Gentle Healing only gives a heal pulse every 3 seconds, interference will necessarily be high at high casting speed, and solo fire sets like Pure Fire become more efficient than this once you're able to hit ᚾ consistently.

Tiles needed

ᛗ: 5 ᚢ: 5 ᚾ: 1 ᛏ: 3 ᚦ: 1

Tilesets

  • ᛏᚢᛗ
  • ᛏᛗᚢ
  • ᛗᚢᛏ
  • ᚾᚢᛗ
  • ᚦᚢᛗ

Notes

  • The regeneration from the Health Bracer will not trigger ᛏ and thus will not work as a healing source for this tileset.
